What Counts as a Product in Kajabi? Choosing the Right Plan

As a Kajabi Expert and Platinum Partner, THIS is the #1 question that I get asked...

What counts as a PRODUCT in Kajabi?

It is confusing when you are first starting out. And with Kajabi's 50% off ALL PLANS deal that is going on through Friday, November 15, you may be wondering as well!!

The most common plans my partners choose when they sign up for Kajabi is BASIC or GROWTH. But, this past year, Kajabi introduced a KICKSTARTER plan that is designed for a brand new business owners. It includes 250 subscribers, 50 paying customers, and ONE product. For most people, this plan could serve you if you are just "kicking the tires" with your business, but if you are taking action and following what I teach in my programs and membership, you will outgrow this plan quickly!

So that leaves us with the Basic Plan which is 3 products and Growth which includes 15 products.

By the way, you can learn more about what is included in each plan by clicking HERE.

So should I choose Basic or Growth?

I chose Kajabi 5 years ago before I even launched my biz and went all in with Growth (when it wasn't 50% off like it is now)! And it has served me well.

As a multi passionate entrepreneur, I knew I would need more than 3 products, but not everyone does. I focused on ONE COURSE to start and live launched that every 3-4 months for 2 years. But in between, I did live workshops that become evergreen courses.

I now have 12 courses/workshops, a membership, and a community that is tied to an evergreen challenge. Growth gives you 15 products. Basic gives you 3. Kickstarter gives you 1 product, but it also limits you to 250 subscribers and 50 paying customers which you may outgrow quickly!

I work with many entrepreneurs and for a lot of them - 3 products is more than enough. They have a course, workshop, and community. OR a course, podcast, and the coaching product. OR they have a starter course, workshop, and signature course.

Let me help anyone who is wondering "what" a product is in Kajabi.

Here are things that do NOT use a product in Kajabi:

  • Lead Magnets (unless it's a course)
  • Your Blog (view mine here)
  • Digital downloads that you send via email or on a landing page
  • A podcast that you host off of Kajabi but connect with a landing page (view mine here)
  • A community you sell on kajabi but host on Facebook or a third-party app
  • Coaching that you deliver on Zoom
  • Webinars, masterclasses, and challenges (unless you package them up to sell on evergreen)
  • Live workshops that you only deliver on Zoom but don't resell later
  • Free things that you give away on a landing page instead of behind a password
  • Affiliate marketing opportunities like a "tools" or "resources" page (view mine here)

In other words... you can create unlimited lead magnets, content, landing pages, and offers with Kajabi. I have dozens and dozens of offers and hundreds of landing pages but only use 14 products.

So what counts as a PRODUCT in Kajabi?

PRODUCTS are typically things you package up so they show in your customer's LIBRARY... often they are things that require a password to get access to... like COURSES, evergreen workshops, memberships that have an educational hub, etc. (I created my membership with a "course" product in Kajabi, but my community is in a Facebook Group.)

If you don't want to use a Facebook Group, you can use Kajabi COMMUNITIES. This counts as a product and I use it for one of my challenges that I now sell on Evergreen. It's a $21 program they get access to for 21 days. I wanted to test out the communities features and there are a lot of things I love about it... especially for those who want to have their course and community in one place.

If you are a coach who has resources and videos you share with all of your clients, then you may use the COACHING product in Kajabi. It counts as one product, but you can have unlimited clients. If you use this you don't even need Zoom! I have sold coaching on Kajabi since I started, but we meet on Zoom and since my coaching is different for each client, I don't use the coaching product.

PODCASTS is a product if you use Kajabi to publish. Kajabi didn't offer podcasts when I launched mine so I use Buzzsprout and absolutely love it for $12 a month. But, Kajabi is where I promote it with a special landing page and my blog and it doesn't use a product.

And then two of the newest product options are DOWNLOADS and NEWSLETTERS. I honestly do not anticipate EVER using these... because I've been sending newsletters and downloads through email campaigns since I started and doing it this way never requires a product. Kajabi added these options for those who do a PAID newsletter and those who want to create downloads that live in their customer's library. For me... it's things they download once and never need to go back to again so no need to use that product.
I hope this helps clarify the differences between what IS and ISN'T a product!

My response to this question will be a "light bulb" moment.

Here is a question someone asked me recently and it's a great example of why you want to understand how products and offers work in Kajabi:

I'm creating short video art lessons that people can purchase one at a time, in bundles, or as a monthly subscription. How would that work with kajabi?

If you want to be able to sell individual lessons that people can purchase separately, then I would create each one as a course product. But, bundles will NOT count as a product. Here's why...

You will create an OFFER that has the bundle pricing and then you will select the "courses" that are included in that bundle and Kajabi will automatically grant them access to JUST those courses. For the first time ever, I'm doing a Pre-Black Friday Sale that is a bundle of all 12 of my courses. I'm calling it my All-Access Pass. All I did was create an offer - and I clicked to add all 12 courses which will be granted in their library when they buy and this does NOT use a product.

TIME-SENSITIVE: My All-Access Pass is only available for ONE WEEK and you can check it out here.

I hope this helps to explain what a product is in Kajabi, whether you are new to Kajabi, considering it, or a long-time Kajabi Hero.
